(Simmon Rimmer, Alison Smith, Robert Smith, Campbell Tweedie) The Anstruther Fish Bar and Restaurant has picked up the Contribution to the Local Community Award as well as the Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award at the national Fish & Chip Shop of the Year competition.  Owners Robert and Alison Smith were presented with the award on 22 January at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel in London by celebrity chef Simon Rimmer. Robert said: “We work hard to develop and maintain long-term relationships with our customers. In a small town like Anstruther it is important to support community initiatives. Many of our customers have been coming to the shop for decades and have been rooting for us throughout the competition. It is a great achievement to take this award back to Scotland and make them all proud.”The shop was shortlisted for its ongoing commitment to supporting local charities including The Royal National Mission for Deep Sea Fishermen which supports UK fishermen and their families. Robert and Alison also support local events and clubs such as Anster Haddies running club and the Anstruther Muster sailing weekend. Andy Gray, project manager of the competition said: “The competitive entries in this category made judging particularly difficult. Fish and chip shops are giving more back to their customers than ever before but Anstruther stood out from the crowd, playing a strong role in the close knit East Neuk community. They are a great role model for budding small businesses throughout the country.” The Contribution to the Local Community Award is sponsored by Duncrue Food Processors Ltd, one of the UK’s leading beef dripping producers. |
